All of our classes are closed for the moment. We would hope to restart sometime in September, and will add a new post when we have some dates.

During the lockdown we have been running a 30 minute Zoom session on Saturday mornings. During these sessions we have looked at how to change the footwork in our forms so as to do them in a more limited  space. We try to include some therapeutic Chi Kung and maintain our existing Tai Chi Practice albeit with modifications to cope with the restricted space in our own homes.

If you wish to participate and are not already included on our email list, please make contact.

Stay well, stay safe.

Seaton Sluice Community Centre

Our new class at Seaton Sluice Community Centre started two weeks ago, its on Fridays 10-00 am until 11-00 am, all abilities welcome. The class has been well attended and many thanks to the Community Centre staff for promoting it.

We will be doing the Tai Chi 18 Chi Kung set and the first 8 of the Yang Style 24 Forms. We will also be doing various other Chi Kung Forms which we hope to vary every week.

Newcastle University

For the last few weeks we have been doing some sessions at Newcastle University Students Union. These sessions were to reduce the stress of the exam period, so we concentrated of Chi Kung exercises and pushing hands with a small amount of work on the Yang Style 24 forms. The pushing hands seemed to go down very well. Many thanks to Chris Drummond for inviting us along.

Saturday Class – Jesmond

The Saturday class has just completed a new sword form which comes from our days with the Wutan school. We will add some video of this form soon along with the Yang Style 32 and 67 Sword Forms.

Thursday Class – Wallsend

This class has done well over the last year concentrating on hand forms and Chi Kung.

Classes at the United Reform Church Hall Jesmond have been well attended and starting earlier with the more advanced students has worked well. We have consolidated the Yang Style 67 and 32 Sword Forms. We have also worked on the 67 Combined Form and the Yang Style 108 Posture Form.

Deirdre has also started teaching Wild Goose Chi Kung which everyone seems to enjoy. You can follow this link to a Youtube video of Wild Goose Chi Kung:-  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm5UvLlKSv4

The Thursday class, which is a smaller group, has progressed really well. In this class we have worked on the Cheng Man Ching form and the Yang Style 24 short form.

In November and December we did some taster sessions with the visually impaired. Many thanks to Sight Service in South Shields for inviting us, it was a pleasure to do and I think we all learned a lot for these sessions.

Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous 2018.

From February 2018 we are moving the Thursday class to Howdon Community Centre, Denbigh Avenue, Wallsend NE28 0DS.

You can find it using the following link :-https://www.google.es/maps/@55.0010495,-1.4982513,824m/data=!3m1!1e3

Tai chi ArboleasWe have just done 2 classes at Sol Yoga, La Cinta, Arboleas, Almeria, Spain.

These classes were well attended and we think everyone enjoyed them. We started with a warm up and some basic Chi Kung.  In the 1st class we did Harmonising 5 Elements Chi Kung followed by a section of the Yang Style Cheng Man Ching 37 form and a taster of applications and push hands. In the second class we added Daoyin of the Dragon and ended with the first 12 movements of the Chen Man Ching form done as a taster session.

Many thanks to Lianne from Sol Yoga http://www.solyogacentre.wordpress.com for giving us the opportunity to run these sessions and we look forward to doing more in the future.

Sword SeminarWe had a good turn out for the 2nd Yang Style 67 Sword Seminar on Sunday 7th June. We started with an hour on the first half of the form, a short break then the second hour on the remaining half. After another short break we when through the complete form several times and then finished with a look at the Yang Style 32 Sword Form.

After 3 hours of hard work we were all ready for a well earned rest. Hope everyone enjoyed the afternoon and looking forward to the next one.

We will be holding another Yang Style 67 Sword seminar on Sunday 7th June from 14-00 until 17-00, its the original form taught by Christopher Pei founder of the US Wushu Acadamy in Boston. Christopher Pei’s teacher was Yang Zhendoe 4th generation head of the Yang family.

The seminar  will be held at:-

The Church of the Ascension, (upper hall), Creighton Avenue, Kenton NE3 4UN.

Creighton Avenue is off Kenton Lane just south of Kenton School.  It is a red brick 1950s church with a curved roof.  Parking is on the street. Teas and coffee will be available.

The seminar will be suitable for anyone with some Tai Chi knowledge, but if you have done some sword before it will be an advantage. For those who have done this form in class we will be going through the whole of the form in detail, looking at posture and technique. You will still find it beneficial even if you have not studied this form previously  as instruction will be geared to suit the individual.

Emma Sword ClassWe met at 14-00 on Sunday 15th March at The Church of the Ascension Upper Hall for 3 hours intensive training on the 67 Yang Style Sword Form.

Everyone had a good time and hopefully went away with a much greater knowledge of the form. But possibly feeling a bit tired and  I am sure felt a few aches and pains especially in the shoulders the follow day or so. Charlie’s cookies were much appreciated as an energy boost during the 10 minute tea breaks every hour.

We plan to organise another seminar on the same form late May or early June watch this space for more information nearer the time.

We will be holding a Yang Style 67 Sword seminar on the 15th March from 14-00 until 17-00. The seminar  will be held at:-
